Straight Series: Mother Mother in concert at the Vogue and Commodore

The Georgia Straight is on a mission to bring you some of the best emerging artists out there, and as part of the Straight Series, we're excited to present Vancouver-based Mother Mother on May 4th at the Vogue Theatre and May 5th at the Commodore.

The Canadian pop quintet is getting set to release their third studio album EUREKA—produced by Mother Mother's own Ryan Guldemond—on March 15, and will be embarking on a Canadian tour in support of their new tunes.

Hailing from Quadra Island, the band began as a trio called Mother in 2005 with Guldemond, his sister Molly, and friend Debra-Jean Creelman, but has come to include bassist Jeremy Page and drummer Ali Siadat along with a second Mother added to their name.

Mother Mother's relentless touring has seen them take the stage with artists such as Weezer, Pearl Jam, the Decemberists, Tokyo Police Club, and Spoon; they've toured with the likes of Sam Roberts and Matthew Good, and have rocked festivals around the world including SXSW, Pop Montreal, Liverpool Sound City, and last year's inaugural Live at Squamish.

Tickets for Mother Mother are priced at $25 (plus service fees) and go on sale Friday (February 18), 10 a.m., for the May 4th show at the Vogue and the May 5th show at the Commodore, but Straight.com readers can take advantage of our presale, which takes place this Thursday (February 10) from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., by using the password "Eureka".

For your chance to win two tickets to the Live Nation show before they go on sale, create an account or sign in with the Straight and leave us a comment below, telling us why you want to be a part of this Straight Series, show. And don't forget to become a fan of the Georgia Straight on Facebook and sign up for THE LIST newsletter for more concert announcements, contests, and exclusive “beat the lines” presale passwords.

I would love to see these guys - definitely one of Vancouver's big talents, but not yet a household name, which makes them a little more intriguing. Please send me to see them before they win album of the year at next year's Grammy's.
The Vogue Theatre would be fantastic!
Thank you!

I saw Mother Mother live for the first time this summer at Live at Squamish. Prior to that, I heard the name but had never heard their music. I'm intrigued to hear/see more of them!

Me and my girlfriend couldn't make it to the free show they did recently. But we are both excited for these shows! She would be blown away if I surprised her with free tickets!

Really sorry if this is a double post! My comment from before doesn't seem to be showing up.

Me and my girlfriend missed Mother Mother when they played their free show recently. So we are both extremely excited for these shows! We are both fairly new to Vancouver still (another couple of young Albertans invading Vancouver) and have found the music scene here to be phenomenal. She would be blown away if I surprised her with free tickets.

Being the receiver of these tickets would cause me to consider one, or all of the following:

A) Get a tattoo of "mother mother" and, if my own mother questions my actions, I will tell her that I love her so much that I had to tattoo her name twice.

B) Be the loudest person at the concert. That's a promise.

C) Shamelessly declare to Americans, British, and any ethno-music-centric nationalities that the Vancouver Music Scene is the best in the world; I will sing it from the hilltops.

D) PAY MONEY FOR THEIR ALBUM.
