Ted Nugent endorsed as Republican presidential candidate on The Simpsons, almost
"It's funny because it's true!"
I'm pretty sure I've heard Homer Simpson spout that line on The Simpsons before, and it would have come in handy on tonight's episode as well. Considering the surreal state of politics in the U.S. these days, the show--in which hard-rocking conservative blowhard Ted Nugent appeared as a Republican candidate for president--was maybe a little too close to reality.
In "Politically Inept, With Homer Simpson", one of the funniest Simpsons I've seen in a while, Homer becomes a populist TV pundit after he revolts against oppressive airline treatment and Bart downloads his rampage onto YouTube.
150-million hits later Homer has become a flag-waving right-wing mouthpiece with his own FOX-type TV show, "Gut Check With Homer Simpson", and he comes close to endorsing "Terrible Ted" as the next leader of the free world. Could the Nuge beat out candidates like Romney and Santorum in real life? You bet your double-barrelled crossbow.
Nugent is well known for his pro-gun, pro-hunting stance. Last year he went totally apeshit in an attack on PETA supporters that included a shot at current U.S. president Barack Obama, who he said "should be put in jail". And he also had these choice words to say during that interview with Royal Flush:
"Mess with me and I will fill you full of lead and then dance on your remains and keep the shit from your carcass in the cleats of my boots while I feed my dog your remains."
Hey, that reminds me of my favourite Nuge tune from '76, "Dog Eat Dog"!
