There's new information, man: Lebowski Fest is headed to Seattle

Hardcore fans of The Big Lebowski should pull out their ratty coat-sweaters, fix themselves a white Russian, and dig out their Creedence tapes, man, because the event they've been waiting 12 years for is coming to Seattle this fall.

Lebowski Fest is a two-night celebration of the Coen Brothers' 1998 comedy, which followed the exploits of Jeffrey Lebowski—a laidback, unemployed Southern Californian played by Jeff Bridges—who gets mistaken for another Lebowski and caught up in a mystery involving a fake kidnapping, a missing toe, and a whole lot of bowling.

The first night of Lebowski Fest, October 15, is a movie party at the Showbox, featuring special guests and a screening of you know what; the next night is a bowling party at Kenmore Bowl, with costume and trivia contests. Tickets go on sale this Friday (March 5) at 10 am at Ticketmaster.com.

The Big Lebowski wasn't a big box-office smash, but for my money it boasts more unforgettable scenes then the last 10 Oscar-winners combined. Some fans point to the "Jesus" bowling scene, featuring John Turturro, as being most memorable; others prefer the part where nihilists—including Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers—threaten Lebowski by tossing a ferret in his bathtub.

Being a Creedence fan like the Dude himself, I prefer this one-minute gem, where he burns himself with a roach, tries to douse it with a beer, then crashes the Dudemobile into a dumpster:

Festival organizers Scott Shuffit and Will Russell held the first Lebowski Fest at a Louisville, Kentucky bowling alley in 2002. This year, as well as Louisville and Seattle, it includes stops in Chicago, New York, and Orlando, Florida. "Lebowksi Fest is not affiliated with the creators of The Big Lebowski," reads the fine print at their website. "We are just huge fans of this Coen Brothers masterpiece."
