Topless feminist group Femen splashed across the Atlantic

The Ukraine's feminist topless warriors are beginning to attract attention in America.

The Atlantic has just published a feature article on Femen, which created a media frenzy in Paris when it tried to disrupt a Catholic protest against same-sex marriage.

The magazine reports that Femen's leader in Paris, Inna Shevchenko, is a journalist who previously worked in the Kiev mayor's press office.

She lost her job after joining a topless protest against Ukraine's prime minister. Later, some men tried to enter her apartment, and Shevchenko assumed they were part of the government's security apparatus.

That's when she fled for Paris.

The group has faced a backlash, such as when Belgian writer Thierry Vanroy accused it of being a "bunch of whores".
