Ubisoft shuts down Vancouver video game studio

Vancouver has lost one of its video-game studios.

Game Informer reported today (January 17) that the French publisher Ubisoft has closed its studio in the city.

The website quoted an unnamed Ubisoft spokesperson as saying: "Ubisoft confirms that we have made the difficult decision to close its studio in Vancouver. Unfortunately, we haven’t found the right formula for success for the talented team there. We thank our Vancouver team for their hard work and the projects that they have delivered."

Ubisoft moved into Vancouver in 2009 by buying the local studio Action Pants.

Ubisoft Vancouver developed the games Academy of Champions: Soccer, Pure Futbol, and Motionsports Adrenaline.

... Bites the dust. Blame this on Christy Clark. Where are our jobs, Christy?? Vancouver was supposed to be a hotbed of high tech activity. Instead, it's full of outsourcing and layoffs. Bravo!

Every time a studio closes, it's a glut of artists and developers poured onto the job market which makes it worse for job seekers (like me).

Ahh, the babyboomers sure had it good -- if a company tried to close shop in their generation, heads would have rolled. Now, it's like no one cares. Pass the pepper.
