Vancouver Canucks the top team in the National Hockey League

It doesn’t happen often Canucks fans, so go ahead and wave those foamy fingers! For the first time since January 13, 2004, the Vancouver Canucks are the number one team in the NHL.

With their 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche in Denver on Sunday night (January 2), the Canucks vaulted into a first place tie in the overall NHL standings with Detroit, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. But based on the number of games the Canucks have played—fewer than those other teams—they find themselves with the best winning percentage (71.6 percent) in the league.

The victory over the Avs left the Canucks with a record of 24-8-5 on the season and in the midst of a remarkable 10-0-2 streak in their past dozen games and a 14-1-2 run over their past 17 games.

They will look for another win Monday night (January 3) when they skate into San Jose to face the Sharks.

@poopnoodle: the Canucks outshot and outplayed the Sharks on Monday, and they'll thump the Lames on Wednesday. They'll not only get past round 2, they'll be the team to beat... just like now. CANUCK NATION!
