it seems like every guy that i date (outdoorsy, active, nice) is a pot-smoker. i am in my 20s and kind of sick of the stoner lifestyle.
Vancouver erupts with a riot downtown after Canucks lose the Stanley Cup
The Vancouver police have declared that there's an "illegal gathering" in the downtown area—and they are prepared to use any force necessary to keep the peace.
There are reports on News 1130 that tear gas has been used near the corner of Georgia and Hamilton streets and at Granville and Nelson.
Road barriers have been ripped out; windows have been smashed; and fires have been lit.
Some in the crowd were throwing bottles at police. People were also seen vomiting after the tear gas.
CTV cameras caught some of the action:

There is a time and place for everything, including riots. A hockey game, regardless of status or the skill of the players involved, is never, ever the time or place for such a thing. The Greek people defending their nation from the predatory lending practices of the IMF, definitely – Stanley Cup, game seven, no – not even a little.
To those few that are responsible – know that you make the rest of your city-mates sick to our stomachs – you cheapened the achievements of the team and you mock the rest of us with your ridiculous weakness. You know what? I rarely have anything positive to say about the police but I hope they find you and I hope they ruin you for what you did to our city and our team. And you did it ALL FOR NOTHING! Nothing. A silly damned game.
The hooigans are lucky that they are dealing with Vancouver Police because if this was in Europe the Police would not be so nice and kind.
I cried when I saw those Police cars being burned...those are my cars, paid by my, my family, my neighbours taxes....that money could have been spend on hospitals, schools or parks.
If the 'anarchists' don't like Vancouver, they should move out and live somewhere else, than you will appreciate how great Vancouver is.
The problem with today's youth is they have no sense of responsibilty.
I work hard for everything I have.
What am I supposed to tell my students when they ask me about this riot?
Last week I was telling them about the history of Vancouver, a wonderful city of only 125 years, with Expo and Olympics behind and now???
By the way, I am not just some some foreigner passing through Europe with a backpack. I live here, pay taxex, own property and contribute to my surrundings, whether here in Warsaw or Vancouver
And when the local team in "world class" (lol) Vancouver loses a game, roving gangs of pissed off and pissed up jocks torch the city centre while other upstanding citizens take advantage and get in on the looting and burning action.
And to add to the hilarity, according to the CBC website, the City and VPD didn't anticipate the violence. WTF?
Anyone who has a feel for the temperament of this burg should have seen this mess coming from a mile (or playoff game) away. One clue could have been the frothing at the mouth nuttiness of the Canuck faithful as displayed in various blogs and forums during the playoffs.
As a final note you gotta love the image of classy Vancouver chicks appearing through the smoke and flames hauling off loads of MAC cosmetics.
(Oh and fuck you CBC website people for your usual anal retentiveness and rejecting my very sensible and insightful comments.)

It's an insult to legitimate philosophical anarchists, and last time I checked Noam Chomsky wasn't running around lighting cars on fire.
Tell your students the truth: Vancouver is an overrated and overpriced playground for the rich, spoiled and narcissistic.
If they ever visit Canada tell them to check out beautiful BC but to give Vancouver a miss. If they want to party and have an easy-going good time point them in the direction of Montreal instead.
I mean when you have a crowd of 100,000 people with nothing better to do in their lives, and then taking into account what happened the last time on Robson Street. why the fuck is everyone surprised?
I been around long enough not to have any faith in the Canucks, especially now that the owners are the Mob.
The mayor is a wanker, and so is the Chief of Police for not having taken enough strong measures.
Cars burning, store looted. Give me a break.
Somebody must resign.
Charlie, I give you a direct order to take them down.
