Vancouver getting its own Lingerie Football League team

Watch out, B.C. Lions. Soon, you're not going to be the only pro football game in town.

That's right. The Lingerie Football League is coming to Vancouver.

Today (September 28), the league announced the awarding of franchises to five Canadian cities—Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Quebec City, and Montreal. Toronto apparently already has a team.

The six Canadian squads are scheduled to hit the field in fall 2012 for the inaugural season of LFL Canada. The 12-week season will lead to the first-ever Canadian Lingerie Bowl, to be staged on the eve of the 2012 Grey Cup.

Currently, 12 teams, including the Orlando Fantasy and Los Angeles Temptation, play in the LFL, which was founded in 2009. The LFL describes itself as the "fastest growing women's professional sports league in the United States".

The following video will give you some idea of what to expect from this brand of football:

yeah but in the Canadian version feminists hold a protest during every game to shut it down because the uniforms aren't slutty enough.

Oh great. Another noxious chemical abounding, so to speak. Plastic surgeons who overuse that stuff, even by request, otta loose their licenses to practice.

You know, I like this. In a world where political correctness is tightening down on every aspect of our lives it's sort of refreshing to see this. The girls seem to take a pride in what they're doing and it actually looks like decent football. Are they objectifying themselves or are we the bad ones for thinking it's all about the sexual appeal? All I'm saying is, I know bacon is terrible for people, but I'd never want to deprive them of it.

If these gals wanted to be taken seriously for their football skills, lingerie would not be involved. Call it what it is: a way for men to stare at women in lingerie inflicting hits on each other. It's a twisted mix of violent sexual fantasy.

Maybe the league should re-think what the men are wearing and make them go in nothing but tight boxers? This is like Playboy Bunnies gone wild! Give me a break. I guess they have to dress this way because the only audience that will be interested in seeing females play football are men.

Sure, if women want to play football, I'm all for it but come on....do it with self-respect and dress appropriately for the sport.

I agree with Sqweeze, bring on the tight white briefs (not a boxer fan).

Miss Representation
When superstars like Madonna and Lady Gaga talk about themselves they explain that they’re exhibitionists and have worked hard to get a stage to perform for others to look at them. This is their calling in life and the way they’re wired. It’s hard to ignore the fact that they’re getting paid not too shabby for something that they’re passionate about.

Feminists keep complaining about the sexual objectification of women yet it’s often women who are instrumental in creating it and they’re profiting in various ways.

I doubt anyone has forced these female players into their profession even if football is the backdrop and this is more about entertainment. As consenting adults, they’re getting paid for their ‘performance’.

Not offended
As someone who doesn't really follow football, these girls look like they are actually playing some serious football. Sure, there's a naughty sex appeal aspect of it, and I'm sure the girls ham it up a bit, but just like underwear models, playboy bunnies, and strippers, they are catering to a market that definitely exists. Sure, they could all do the same jobs without the underwear market (e.g. normal modelling, serving drinks in non-stripper-wear, etc.), but this is a novelty they clearly enjoy, are good at, and feel empowered by. Let them do their job.

You don't have to watch.

just saying
To Not Offended, it not about being offended, its about using football as a tool to market their concept. justifying it.

We are a messed up society. we rationalize and makes excuses when we want to justify something. it is what it is. don't cover under the prefix of being a "professional sport" , when it just a T&A event.
Not saying its right or wrong ,and everything is just a money grab. what we won't do for a buck.how sad!

as a strong fan of lingerie myself (I wear it daily), but I have the balls to call it what it is.(and yes i WAS a calendar model did 14 calendars to be exact) but that's another story.
I dont care what you do,just say it and save the shit talk for someone who is stupid enough to buy it.
I can see right through it.
next thing you know , the "girl next door", and "girls gone wild" will be the spokesperson for hockey!!
exactly..the 2 have NOTHING in common, but somewhere someone will thread them.or wait, maybe it should be
"Toddlers and Tiaras", since now a days there are no limits.

I’m just saying that when propagandists use the internet as a tool to market their questionable ideology, "we’re not stupid to buy it". They can make excuses when they want to justify something, but just say it for what it is, as we can see right through it.

wow! I used to miss getting ping pong balls shot into my beer glass, then one day I just heaved a sigh and said, sadly "Those days are over, my friend" - but this is very, very, VERY promising! Can there be pole dancing after touchdowns? Can there be chanting from the stands "Show-er! Show-er!" You bet!
Of course, it makes all those manly men in the CFL and NFL dressed to the teeth in protective gear look like a bunch of pussies, but..wait a minute, let me rephrase that...
