      Hola and olá,  filmmakers!

While you're busy gearing up for the holiday season, here's something to keep in mind. The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival (which will be held from August 30 to September 8, 2013) has just announced its call for submissions for its 2013 film competitions.

The third annual short film competition is open to Latin American animated, fiction, and documentary short films (maximum length of 15 minutes). The winning film will receive a $500 cash prize (an honourable mention will also be named).

If you're a first-time director of a narrative film, you might want to consider submitting your film to compete for the VLAFF First Time Directors Award, which includes a $2,500 cash prize. (The competition was launched at the 2012 festival, which was its tenth anniversary.)

There's still plenty of time though. The submission deadline for both is May 3, 2013.
