Speakers railed against calls to assassinate journalists and whistleblowers at Vancouver's Library Square this afternoon (January 15).

The rally, organized by the Pirate Party of Canada to show support for WikiLeaks, drew around 50 people.

Speakers spoke out in solidarity with WikiLeaks editor in chief Julian Assange, who is under house arrest in the U.K., and Bradley Manning, the U.S. soldier accused of leaking classified documents to the whistleblower website.

They also called for open government, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, and net neutrality.

Pirate Party of Canada member Shawn Vulliez slams University of Calgary professor Tom Flanagan for suggesting that Julian Assange be assassinated.

Writer Michael Nenonen says threats against WikiLeaks represent an attack on freedom of the press.

Shawn Vulliez explains how people can support WikiLeaks.

If Whatshisname dared to print any leaks about China or Russia, they probably would hunt him down and assassinate him. Otherwise he's just bucking for a little publicity.

If he'd printed leaks about China or Russia, America would have given him a nobel prize and called him a hero!
