VIMFF 2011 Fall Series offers outdoor adventure fix to Vancouver audience
Fans of outdoor sports like rock climbing and ultra-marathoning can look forward to an adrenaline-fuelled series of presentations and films later this month.
The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival 2011 Fall Series takes place at the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver from November 15 to 17.
A highlight this year is the FEAT Canada Talks evening on November 15. The event is to feature presentations from speakers like adventure racer Nicki Rehn, Olympic rower Scott Frandsen, and Grouse Grind record holder Sebastian Salas.
On November 16, the sixth-annual Reel Rock Film Tour is scheduled. The films focus on the stories of climbers involved in bouldering, free climbing, high-lining, and ice climbing.
On November 17, adventurer Pete Brennan is to deliver a presentation on his 12,000-kilometre cycling journey from India to Ireland.
The VIMFF 2011 Fall Series is a spinoff of the long-running Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival held in February.
Festival director Alan Formanek said the fall series is like a smaller version of the festival but still brings together members of the outdoor sporting community.
“They like to get inspired by what these people in the films and in the presentations show them,” Formanek told the Straight by phone.
