Westboro Baptist Church says God hates fag-run Canada

On the eve of the Vancouver Pride parade, the Straight, as well as a long list of other Canadian news publications, received a news release from the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas.

According to the news release, God hates Canada, "land of Sodomite sin", beacuse it "is a filthy country run by fags".

The church is famous for organizing demonstrations and protests at gay funerals and events.

They also run the Web site God Hates Fags.

The Westboro Baptist Church is also known to picket the funerals of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The church claims that those deaths are punishment for America's "tolerance" of homosexuality, according to a report by FoxNews.

Apparently, the Westboro Baptist Church gets money whenever someone goes to their website, so I'd advise some people not to go to it if you don't want to support them.

If god hates Canada, then why do we have all the oil, the land, the beautiful, untouched lakes and forests, and all this...well...kindness? That beheaded man was dead, there wasn't anything anyone can do to save him so there was no point in staying. I hope that these mindless fuckers don't come here...

Michael Moore's The Man!!!!, he's not afraid to stand up for what's right & for what's being done wrong too, as for Rev. Phelps, isn't promoting hate a crime too? what is disgusting is this asshole preaching hatred to young children, I have several friends that are both gay & lesbian & if I had children I would've mentored them into accepting everyone, no matter what their race, creed or sexual orientation was or is, plus if my son or daughter told me that he or she was gay, guess what I'd still love them & their4 partner would be forever welcome in my home.

To be concerned about this group is an utter waste of time. They made some headlines years ago but anyone outside of this cult simply writes them off as a joke these days. They go after shock value, they're financially bankrupt, and most of the members of the church (a very small congregation) are all related. Maybe do an article on the group that is dedicated to chasing them away from the funerals of gays and soldiers that were killed in combat the Patriot Guard Riders

Martin - FWIW, this article is presently coming up as number one on the list of most commented upon articles, which you see after leaving a comment on something else; so that's why there's all this current activity. (I also was wondering why this group was in the news again, only to discover that they aren't...).
