No doubt, you've already heard today's (September 7) big news in Canada's political scene. No, I'm not talking about the federal government closing its embassy in Iran.
That's right. Defence Minister Peter Mackay and human-rights activist Nazanin Afshin-Jam are expecting their first child.
Afshin-Jam, the former Miss World Canada and coauthor of The Tale of Two Nazanins who married Mackay in January, took to her Facebook page today to announce the news:
My friends, I would like to share with you the blessed and joyous news that Peter and I are expecting a baby around springtime :) I believe motherhood will be the most challenging yet most fulfilling journey I will embark on. Peter and I have never been happier and we look forward to celebrating with you.
In the spirit of tabloid, uh, journalism, we turned to a totally unscientific online tool to predict what the offspring of Mackay and Afshin-Jam might look like. The results, which will almost certainly not look like the real thing, are above.

As for Canada closing our embassy in Iran, I agree with Terry Glavin. That was a good decision.
