Whitecaps add Scottish striker Kenny Miller

Looking to bolster their sagging scoring, Whitecaps FC have announced the signing of Scottish striker Kenny Miller as the team's newest designated player. Miller has captained Scotland's national side in international play and tied for sixth in total goals scored in Europe during the 2010-11 season when he found the back of the net 26 times. Miller has 187 goals to his credit in 547 career club matches.

The 32-year-old joins Whitecaps FC after spending the 2011-12 season with Cardiff City FC. Miller scored 11 goals in 50 appearances with the Welsh club. Miller joins fellow Scot Barry Robson on the Whitecaps roster under the guidance of Scottish head coach Martin Rennie.

The Whitecaps can use an injection of offense having scored just three goals on a recent five game road trip and only 21 goals in their first 20 games this season. The addition of Miller continues a tumultuous week for the soccer club that started with the transfer of Davide Chiumiento to FC Zurich and continued with the trade of Sebastien Le Toux to New York for midfielder Dane Richards. The Whitecaps host the LA Galaxy at B.C. Place Stadium on Wednesday July 18.
