Wikileaks releases video of U.S. forces killing two journalists, many unarmed Iraqi civilians

A video of U.S. forces attacking and killing journalists and unarmed civilians in Iraq has been posted on the Internet.

The footage–now widely available–was first published at Wikileaks.org, a Web site where anybody can make available documents alleging government or corporate misconduct.

Depicted in the 18-minute-long video is a U.S. Apache helicopter firing on two groups of individuals on the ground in Baghdad. The recording was made on July 12, 2007.

As reported in the New York Times, U.S. officials originally said of the incident, “There is no question that coalition forces were clearly engaged in combat operations against a hostile force.”

But after Reuters long pressed for the release of the footage, the video appeared at Wikileaks.org. Shortly after, a spokesperson for the U.S. Army confirmed that the footage was authentic and depicted the killing of civilians.
