Winter is snow much fun on Hollyburn Mountain
Here’s a good little snowshoeing trip for unambitious winter days. Found in West Vancouver’s Cypress Provincial Park, the popular route up Hollyburn Mountain rises 425 metres and takes around three hours return.
From the parking lot for the nordic ski area, the free hikers’ access trail heads into the woods, skirting the ski area boundary. All those snowshoes have dug a path into the snow, and the route is marked by wands.
Eventually, the trail arrives at the top of the Upper Romstad cross-country ski run, where you may join some of Hollyburn’s paying customers for the steep ascent of the 1,325-metre summit. At the top, a raven or two will likely try to share your lunch while you enjoy the views or fog.
Following your tracks back down is easy, but it’s funner to plough through any fresh powder and get in some butt sliding too.
