The world's greatest living rock guitarist is coming to Vancouver

Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck all played in the Yardbirds, but only one of them is the best. Yeah, I know, beauty's in the ear of the beholder, and there's a lot of Clapton and Page fans out there. But we here at EON took our own personal poll and decided what the truth was. So there.

Jeff Beck, the world's greatest living rock guitarist, announced today that he'll embark on a Canadian tour this fall, which includes a stop at the Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts on October 27. Don't bother checking your calender--it's a Thursday night. You're free. He hits the stage at 7:30 pm sharp. See you there.

Tickets for the Beck concert go on sale this Friday (June 24) at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster, priced at $77.50 and $55 (plus service charges and fees), and you can find them here. If he sounds anywhere near how he did on his last live album, Performing This Week...Live at Ronnie Scott's, it'll be worth every damn penny. And if he plays Stevie Wonder's "Cause We've Ended as Lovers", it'll be worth a whole lot more.

I don't always agree with Steve, but I'll add my vote. THE GREATEST. And he's playing here on my birthday! How cool is that?

I was gonna suggest that I take you to the concert as a birthday present, Rock on! Too bad you don't always agree with me.

Grrrr!

Damn! Already bought tix for Roger Daltrey show that same night. Can't these old rockers coordinate their schedules? Or play together?

I can appreciate Jeff Beck, but IMO the greatest living rock guitarist is Eddie Van Halen.

Eddie could use a bit of Jeff's soul to help even out all that flash, don'tcha think?

Eddie's no slouch in the feel department, Steve. And music isn't a boxing match or 100 metre dash, although some shredders seem to think it is. That said, for my money, Beck is one of the most innovative guitarists I've ever heard, and he continues to evolve -- unlike, say, Clapton.

I am not surprised at all as i realized this to be true when i 1st heard his album "There and Back" and he comfirmed the same with "Blow by Blow" and everything he has done since then. I had the pleasure of seeing him in person in the early 80's and i am hoping his Canadian tour brings him somewhere close to Windsor. From my concert experience he was second only to Pink Floyd Animals tour in Cleveland in 76 and that was only because of the show they put on on top of the music (and by the way i have also seen Eric, Jimmy, Eddie and many other great guitarists perform live in their prime and none of them were not even close to Jeff)

I wouldn't buy a shot of tequila from Hagar if he were the last bartender in Cabo. Would have an equally difficult time buying his line on a real groundbreaker who, regardless of his personal issues, will be talked about long after Sammy has faded into obscurity.

Well, Hagar's tequila is pretty damn tasty, Guy. And his old band, Montrose, was the one that Van Halen modelled itself after. So even though his current band, Chickenfoot, stinks, the guy has done some good things.
