WTF of the day: European fast food chain releases Star Wars–themed...black burgers?

Has a fast food chain literally given in to the Dark Side? (Well, notwithstanding the nature of fast food itself.)

Belgian-based Quick, one of Europe's first hamburger chains, has released three new hamburgers to tie in with the reissue of Star Wars: Episode 1—The Phantom Menace in 3D in February in Europe. And one of them is literally on the dark side.

The Dark Vador burger (Darth Vader is called Dark Vador in French) will sandwich two beef patties, lettuce, tomato, and cheese between two black buns. No, they haven't been burnt; they've been dyed.

There' s also a Jedi burger, associated with Yoda in ads (but the buns aren't green and, curiously, the green lettuce is missing), and a Dark burger (with regular coloured buns featuring seasonings on top), associated with Darth Maul in ads.

The ads ask audiences to choose which side of the Force they're on.

The burgers will be available until March 1. Unfortunately (or fortunately), the burgers aren't available in Canada.

(One can only dare to imagine what a Jar Jar Binks burger would've looked like. Or one with a Jabba the Hutt theme, God forbid.)

The fast food chain, which has locations in Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Algeria, Egypt, Russia, and several other countries, has previously released other attention-grabbing special or limited-release menu items. Their 2010 low-priced foie gras burgers in France and the decision to serve halal-only meat in some locations sparked controversy and media attention.

I thought Belgians had better taste than this. I may have to rethink their tasty beers and judge them as a nation by this stupid-ass gimmick.

Remember the good old days when a black bun was indicative of a hardcore mold problem and that the entire pantry should be turfed?

Yeah. I miss those days. Don't feel the Dark Side, Luke.

@Steffani: Having eaten at Quick, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on the use of black dye (even if a good dark pumpernickel would have had a similar effect).

Coming out with a black burger is not enough reason to rethink their tasty beers and judge them. Look at how many stupid ass ideas the us or canada, the main fast food nations, come out with each month.

Awesomeness!! If I wasn't allergic to gluten and lived in Europe I would be jumping all over this. Star Wars burgers are amazing!
