Your guide to New Year's Eve events in Vancouver

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Picking where to ring in the New Year can be just as daunting as facing the resolutions you've made the next day. Whether you want to kick it old school, get dolled up for a big party, or keep things bluesy, we run down a list of the most happening NYE events in Vancouver.

      Travel Back in Time

Party like it's 1979 with Foreigner at the Red Robinson Show Theatre (Boulevard Casino, 2080 United Boulevard). The band will be joined by original guitarist Mick Jones, cranking out hits like "Feels Like the First Time," "Cold as Ice," and "Dirty White Boy" at midnight.

Or ring in the New Year with Huey Lewis and the News at the River Rock Show Theatre (River Rock Casino Resort, 8811 River Road). The San Francisco pop-rockers will have you donning leg warmers and a side ponytail with your cocktail dress as they take you back to the '80s while crooning "I Want a New Drug" and "The Power of Love."

      Party People

If dancing at a large-scale party with a champagne toast at midnight is how you want to spend New Year's Eve, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Party with nearly 1,000 other people at the Commodore Ballroom (868 Granville Street) at their annual NYE bash. This year's event will feature local big party band, the Famous Players, covering everything from Black Eyed Peas, to Bon Jovi, to Lady Gaga, as well as DJ Paul the Wall, blasting top-40s hits.

The newly renovated Waldorf Hotel (1489 East Hastings Street) is also hosting a NYE party, and if their opening party on Halloween was any indication, this much buzzed-about soirée is where to be for those who want to see and be seen. The evening begins with a six-course Spanish dinner, followed by a treat for all senses with shows by Maayan Zilberman, Ronan Boyle, Barbarella Salon, Peter Hagge, Craig Trudeau, and Tim Hill, as well as performances by John Maus, Geneva Jacuzzi, and TRS-80. Then, dance the night away to sounds provided by DJs Slimroy & Jonny Was, Jesse Proudfoot & Chris Allen, Jess Conn-Potegal, and Ryan Moore.

If dressing up for a champagne gala is more your style, consider one of these two hotel parties. Glitz & Glamour New Year's Eve Gala at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown (6083 McKay Avenue) is a spare-no-expense event with four dance floors and eight DJs. Wine and dine with dinner band Paul Choisil & Panacea before busting a move on the dance floor with DJs Alibaba, Flipout, Elmo Super Sound & DJ Romeo, Earl Da Pearl, Jay Swing, Daddy Mikey, Latin DJ Jorge, and Zak Sanitago. The Marriott Pinnacle Hotel (2238 West Hastings Street) is also hosting a hot-ticket party, called 2011 Frozen in Time and featuring Melody Diachun and DJs Kenya, Siavash, Downlove & Kidd, Dash, Frisk, Hunt, and Dizzie D.

      A Jazzy New Year

Why ring in the New Year when you can snap your way in style? Local blues guitarist Steve Kozak will play a NYE gig at Granville Island's Dockside Restaurant (1253 Johnston Street) with his Swingin' Blues Band. Or, head over to the Yale (1300 Granville Street) for a performance by Nanaimo-based blues rocker David Gogo. A NYE party is also happening at Cory Weeds' Cellar Jazz Club (3611 West Broadway Street), featuring New York saxophonist Ian Hendrickson-Smith.
