Too afraid to follow my dreams because it's a long road and I'd like to be able to help my parents out financially the fastest way possible.

Follow your dreams because you'll wake up one day and no one will have appreciated the sacrifice. Follow the dreams. Don't make the same mistake I did. You will regret it forever. Don't be crazy.

If you don't try, it's an automatic failure. If you do try, your dreams just might come true. If you defer the dream because of fear, you will only be wasting time. I'm sure your parents would appreciate the financial gesture, but all parents want their kids to be responsible and happy. Do the responsible thing and go for your dreams!
Everyone I know who chose the high dollar path over their real dreams are professionally miserable.

yea. i'm a dreamer/positive thinker/etc. but i'm also a realist in today's world. gotta do what you gotta do if you're not fortunate to be in a financial situation where you can comfortably follow your low-money making dream.
In the meantime

I made the choice to sacrifice my dreams in order to help a parent. I unselfishly put family first. And when I desperately needed help this person was the only one who stepped up. In your case it may be useful to upgrade your education or whatever your dream is in order to better help them in the future. It's a gamble.
As babies our parent's had high hopes for our future.

Talk to your parents about their own dreams. Ask them if they have a dream for you. Honour them by honouring yourself.
