The reason for single-ness

You know why many of you say that people in Vancouver are not approachable or they aren't nice or whatever else 'excuse' you have? I know why we're all single here. I just went to grab a divorce kit for my parents and I'm on a wait list! They're sold out! So people are getting their hearts broken and are bitter. It's no wonder why no one wants to be friendly when you smile at them! They are all on edge!

uh....what on earth is a divorce kit? Kind of makes a statement about our society doesn't it?

I am sorry that you are dealing with the possible divorce of your parents. Even when it is the best decision for all involved, it is a major transition and can change a family dynamic. I hope you are finding support in this and that you know that you can be there to participate as a member of the family, but you are not required to be a therapist to either party. I wish you lots of luck while you are involved in this.

People get married too young, because they got pregnant, because they don't want to be alone, because all their friends are, because they want someone to take care of them, because they feel like they should because society tells them they're getting "up there"... the reasons are endless.

People get divorced because one or both just stop trying to make it work.

It's a really sad reality. There are studies right now that the suggest the institution of marriage is passe and that relationships without serious commitment are on the rise.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that (being committed to each other), but the same level of commitment isn't there. Marriage may not be sacred anymore, but I think that people who dismiss it as archaic or a societal construct are just as scared of commitment as everyone else. They may be in a committed relationship or living together, but really, they could walk away any day and not have to go through the process of getting a divorce.

:) Well a divorce kit essentially is a package of forms that you can fill out with the other partner who is also in agreement with you and you can legalize your own divorce without having lawyers involved. The kit is all the legal documents you require. It's about 40 bucks. You can get it at Chapters, Walmart, Staples. Alas, I found a kit! No I'm not their therapist, but I don't want to pay lawyers, so I choose to get the kit. Ha!
