Tip Jars - wTf?

I always fight a bit of unfounded subconcious guilt when facing a tip jar on the counter beside a cash register and not contributing to it. Basically, giving a cashier your spare change does NOT make them SELL you something any better, (baristas and bartenders excepted). Beisdes, aren't they simply doing their job (selling you things), why do they need a tip? I may start giving them nickels (the new penny), though, as they are useless in the parking meters.

I once went to a Tim Horton's that had a tip jar. I think I panicked and ran.

has a tip jar. What for? It feels like I am always being asked for money wherever I go.

dont be such a bunch of whiners. Tip if you want, dont if you dont. Move on. Not even worth worrying about.

i'm a regular at buckstars , and i tip every time , but this one barista, refuses to accept my tip! she's super nice and kinda cute too, but thats not the point! they're not all money grubbing dirt bags! if you can afford to tip, than do so, if you can't, then oh well!

...i would fart in the tip jar. Put the lid on tight and give it a vigorous shake. then tell the tip-whore to make sure they deeply inhale and savor my 'tip'. :)

To Insure Promptness. (I thought that should be 'ensure', but as per the Concise Oxford Dictionary, either is correct.)
