I Wish

My boyfriend and I have been together for several years and the question of a prenuptial agreement been brought up by his family. He comes from a very wealthy family and they say this is normal in their family but its not normal in mine. I was extremely hurt when he actually had it written by a Professional Lawyer. I decided not to sign it because I think love and money have nothing to do with one another. I wish he cared more about me instead of his money.

If you cared about him instead of his money, it would be moot because you have no plans to separate.

Yeah and paper has nothing to do with love. This is 2014 and you need to stop being a hippy dippy flowers and unicorns and true love will conquer everything kind of woman. Reality check. If you love him so much then you should sign an iron clad 'I want nothing if we divorce' contract. That's a sign of true love. I'm a chick btw. And I make my own damn money.

If love has nothing to do with money, then you should have no problem signing, because it is a financial matter, not anything to do with love---just a bit of paperwork.

I call troll. What else would a lawyer be if not professional? Why capitalise "Professional Lawyer?" Do we speak German? How naïve can one be? An agreement before entering a marriage makes a lot of sense, since the exit (often happens these days) will be smoother.

I always take issue with anyone refusing to sign a prenup.

What does it matter? If the person is rich you'll be spoiled anyway. If his family is rich, they EARNED that wealth, and you have no claim to it whatsoever.

"Oh, how can I trust that he cares about me if I sign a prenup?"

Well how can they trust that you're not just after his money if you don't?

In this day and age I wouldn't even consider marriage - and I've only got a few thousand in the bank...hahaha!
As all the posters above have stated, sign it and show him you'll do 'anything for love' Hahahaha

Prenuptial agreements are an absolutely normal and natural thing. When things go sour and parties don't want to to talk to each other it is nice to have things set up ahead of time (child and spousal support payments, living arrangements, property and investments) . When someone's family is lucky to have multiple properties and investments separating things can get messy, it takes a lot of time and is complicated. People make shopping lists before the trip to the market, this is a legal equivalent of said list. Get your head out of your ass, check your calendar and stop listening to your stupid girlfriends who haven't worked a day in their life.
