Stop

My boyfriend works too much. He works over 70 hours a week and he is rarely home. When he is home he's exhausted from his construction job. I don't like it one bit and I want him to cut his hours to 40 hours per week and to spend more time with me. I can't remember the last time we went to Whistler or Kelowna. Having a house and two cars is great but not at the expense of our relationship.

He's smart for doing this, to have a good life. It might be rough now but it will impact your future in a really good way. He probably wants to spend all of his time with you.

Maybe this music will help ... it's from a song by Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band ...

Miggie, Miggie Bonija's very upset
She's sick and tired of living in debt
Tired of roaches and tired of rats
I know she is, oooh
So her noble man says
"Baby I understand, oh my honey"
Now he's working two jobs at Eighth Avenue bars
Oh, ain't crazy baby
Now she complains
That her man is never present, no
She goes next door
I know that she's just playing the whore
Hey for misery my friend, hey
Cherchez la femme

70 hours is too much, but in a short sprint to achieve a financial goal (e.g. $200k in the bank...or whatever) then I guess it is ok. Do you work also? Two incomes better than one.

I agree about life/work balance. The partners in a couple have to support each other emotionally as well as materially. You guys should talk this out and make a five year plan.

If you work then I feel for you , if you don't work then he should leave your selfish ass.

What do you do for work? When he is at home, do just bitch and moan at him about never being around? What if you turned this negative situation for you into a positive and picked up a hobby to fill your alone time, or when he is home- make it so amazing for him, he will might consider working less.

Remind him that nobody ever says on their death bed "I wish I spent more time at work"

I am sure you like the material comforts and the lifestyle that I'm also sure he's busting his ass to provide to make you happy, god knows why, given what an unappreciative self centered person you appear to be. so, why not take some of the financial load off by contributing more or demanding less? But then, he puts up with it.
