Grocery shopping

I am a senior and am very lonely. I go to the grocery store everyday instead of stocking up because it's the only time I get to interact with people. The check-out people are very nice. I alternate between 3 stores so no one realizes how often I am going. I always feel a little down after I get home because it will be the next day before I will see people again. I am not healthy enough to join any clubs or meetups as I tire easily. I'm actually glad when it gets dark earlier these days as it means I can go to bed really early and the days don't seem so long with nothing to do.

Local coffee shops, bus benches and bus & skytrain rides !. Libraries and parks are also really great people watching spots and random meeting places for some of the best conversations. Because of great people, such as yourself, it IS a friendly city, no matter what other people say. Always be safe, and happy travels <3

There are organizations that have people who go visit with lonely seniors in their homes.
I think United Way has something like that.... or at least they might know places you can call to arrange to have a home visitor.
Give them a call and get the ball rolling! :)

Groups?

Are there any seniors groups that you could attend? If you are in the west end, how about the seniors place in Denman Mall? It does not take too much energy. Otherwise, how about looking for a book club? It is mostly sitting. :) I hope you do not stay lonely!

That's brave and honest of you to confess this. It's not easy to make friends. Good for you anyways to going out and interacting with people.

I am so very sorry that you are so lonely. If it makes you feel any less alone please know that I can relate. My daily outing was to cross the street to buy a coffee because that's all I could do because of pain. I am grateful to all of those kind people who are sweet to you. Sending love and hugs.

This is a great confession. Thanks for sharing. That's why I keep visiting this page as often as you shop for groceries.

I often go to the grocery store 2 or 3 times in the same day. In fact the same store. Why not?

i am not a senior....

but a lonely middle aged man. I can relate to going to different grocery stores or shops just to feel some human connection thru small chit chat or a smile/comment with another customer. The coffee shops are not really such a freat place to meet....most people are there with laptops or smartphones or there as a couple. I could suggest having a dog as a companion and bring to the park, but that works fine on sunny days and you mostly talk to other dog owners for seconds to a few minutes and then go your own ways. It is a difficult city to make connections, esp with so many rainy days and nights, limited income and paying too much for the basics. Move to the okanagan or the island if you are in any position to do so....people there are friendlier and a change of lifestyle may come to you.
