I hate Christmas

that is my confession. First of all, I am not religious, so why would I celebrate it? For the same reasons I don't celebrate Ramadan, or Hannukah or any other religious holiday. I hate the overconsumption that goes along with it…all that wrapping paper that will just end up in the trash can, more garbage for the world yay. I stopped buying gifts for people over five years ago and I simply don't engage in activities that are associated with it…I have let go of any guilt associated with not reciprocating gift/card-giving…I have let people know that I don't celebrate. Now, Christmas is just one giant, dreaded, tinsel sh*t storm that I simply endure every year…until the next!

But you just love those Egg Nog Lattes from Starbucks, don't you? And the Christmas bonus from work, (if you do work for a company, that does offer that).

or you can enjoy the merriment of it all and not get too worked up about gifts. Most normal adults know to take it easy for xmas and enjoy the fellowship and goodwill of friends and family.

life it good. Dont take it so seriously.

I truly feel for you as Christmas is indeed a time for family. As a thought, the Union Gospel Mission and their ilk would likely appreciate any help you could provide feeding the homeless.

started out as a religious holiday (holy-day) and still has meaning for those who follow that religion. However, the big push for more money that changes it into something it is not, like the "Holiday season" or "Winter festival" has taken away the spiritual origins and turned it into a huge consumer fest. That being so overdone is what turns most people off these days. Where is the peace and wonder in seeing people argue over buying a new video game.

I now just have to alert the fam that there will be no gift exchange and I will not be attending any forced dinner, brunch, or breakfast events.

Thankfully there are some guys who don't use the over-consumption ruse to cover up their cheapness.

Gifts don't have to be expensive (just thoughtful: something that the recipient -supposedly a loved one- would appreciate.... that shows thoughtfulness on the part of the giver).

Guys, let any potential on-going romantic female associations know ahead of time that you do not share their enjoyment of gift-giving.
If your family members don't like it, well they can take it or leave it but they stay your family.
