Show Some Compassion

A woman with children confesses that the holidays will be especially tough because she lost her job and her boyfriend recently had a run of bad luck. Instead of receiving support the majority of comments she received were not supportive of her situation at all. Probably because most of the commentators have no idea how hard life can be. Everyone doesn't have a mom and dad and a happy home to come from. A lot of people come from broken homes with alcoholic and abusive fathers throwing them out at 14 or 15 and then going from one abusive group home to another. Is it so hard to show some compassion. The world is a cold place why can't people show love to one another. You all should be ashamed of yourself.

Or it was a fake letter

Some of us question whether the occasional comments purportedly from women with multiple children, no income, no significant other (or one who's in trouble with the law) are fake "confessions" designed to generate anger towards women in similar situations.

It's easy: pick a group you don't like (rich white Republicans for example), post a fake confession ("I can't afford payments on my 2nd yacht if I have to pay my employees minimum wage, it's NOT FAIR!!1!"), and watch the hatred flow towards the group supposedly confessing.

Perhaps this makes some people less than sympathetic.

Not really surprised at all by the negative comments in regards to her post fake or not. Without a doubt Vancouver has really changed from the city I fell in love with 20+ years ago.

@Biz Markie - I don't think Vancouver has changed. The problem is all the internet trolls who, with malicious intent, stir the pot, and create bad feelings all over the place (and being one of the people who has offered sympathy only to discover that yes, the OP was a troll), I confess that it's made me reluctant to waste my time offering sympathy if I suspect the OP is a troll.)

Those sociopathic misfits have ruined it for those who have sincerely heartfelt and painful confessions, and for those of us who want to offer support and sympathy.

Now I won't give support unless there's something in the post that, for me, smacks of honesty and sounds like more than some troll's stereotypic idea of how 'poor people' or 'golddiggers' live. I don't want to feed the troll.

And trolls, you're not as smart as you think you are, because if you derive pleasure from playing games with good, kind people then I really pity you because you are totally messed up, in ways that would take me too long to post here.

Nuff said.

Showing more compassion serves us all well.

Sadly, I am with you 100%. 20 years ago I absolutely loved it here and wouldn't have dreamed of living elsewhere. I don't recognize this city physically or spiritually anymore; it's dead, with a dead soul. Commenters here underscore that.

Things have changed in VanCity

I agree @Biz Markie, Vancouver has no compassion, yeah, sure Vancouver is pretty, with the pretty mountains & the pretty parks & pretty beaches, the trendy eateries, the trendy neighbourhoods, but all people here care about are, wanting women to smile or men to stop being creeps or everyone just wants to party & get laid.

I pity the fool

I would show her compassion if she didn't have 5 kids. That has nothing to do with unlucky circumstances and everything to do with pathological stupidity.

Its sad that people are so quick to judge others and criticize them rather than be supportive. Everyone makes mistakes but I find the most judgmental people are the ones who have never faced any real adversity.

People are judgmental and borderline modern day sociopaths in the making.
