NO TIP FOR YOU THIS YEAR

I moved this year and my new landlord is rude. I usually give a $40 tip at Christmas..and would have given $50 this year. No tip for you this year. So sad. Probably no tip next year either.

My landlord gives me a Christmas gift

Usually smthg small like cookies, and I started giving them chocolate in return. Just for civility and maintaining a good relationship with them.

you got it wrong.
Your landlord SHOULD give you a gift.
ie; chocolates, a reduction of rent, a small token of thanks, etc.

As a previous landlord, I am appalled that most do nothing. I guess I am just from a family of manners and was taught properly.
Every member of family(who are or have been landlords) Always do something nice for the tenants'.
Though friends I have that rent in Vancouver say they have NEVER received so much as a card from their landlords, especially if they are non Caucasian. how sad.

It is customary to tip a building manager or superintendent if they have provided you with assistance over the year. When I rented a condo my landlady always brought me chocolates in December when she picked up cheques for the following year. Good tenants should be valued and appreciated. We are responsible for one of the landlords largest assets!
