I want to be passionate about something

I hear people talking about loving what they do and being totally immersed in it and dedicated to it. I've never felt that with any job. There's been jobs that I don't hate, but I by no means love them, and don't spend any more time thinking about them or doing them than I have to. I want a job that I love, that I feel like I was born to do and that I can get lost in for hours. I feel like everyone is meant to contribute to the world in their own way, but I don't feel like I've really found anything where I can use my talents to their fullest extent to contribute. I'm motivated by there being purpose to what I'm doing, and knowing it assists or benefits others in some way. I'm not motivated by money or moving up the corporate ladder. Because of this my current career isn't motivating to me at all, and I feel like I should start over with a different career path, but that seems like such a big, not to mention expensive, undertaking. I don't know what to do.

who love what they do and get all immersed in it ..

The amount who do not far exceed the ones who do . If that makes you feel any better.

It can start as a hobby so you don't have to give up on your current job.

just because the vast majority is willing to settle (like 'TPYHA' mentions) doesn't mean you have to. find your tang!! volunteer. join a club. join the board of a NP. find what the feeling is that makes you feel the way you want to feel and go with that. follow that. pursue that! Good luck!

you dont need to contribute anything grandiose nor do you necessarily have to cop to this idea pushed by society of constant progress.youre ok as you are; a unique and special snowflake

... Sometimes if you try to do what you love for a living, it ruins the love of it from having to deal with the struggles of monetary restrictions, politics and disillusion..
It's not bad to have a job that pays your bills and then do what you love in your free time, as long work doesn't eclipse it.

social work, social housing and dtes, I'm assuming you dont have life experience so you probably have a lot to learn, but it's fun! start as part-time if you can and go from there.
