Narcissism at Work

My supervisor at work is a power hungry, narcissistic control freak. Not only that, but she's uneducated. No disrespect to anyone in the service industry, but her only experience is as a cocktail waitress, so it's a tad hard to have any respect for someone who didn't earn her role. This person habitually positions herself next to whoever is in power, and kisses ass to the top. Anyone working under her basically is delegated her entire job, which she then passes off as her work. She wastes the whole day blabbing about herself, and then gets angry when things aren't done. I can count on one hand how many times a conversation with her involved her actually asking about someone else and letting them answer. All conversations are simply a vehicle for her to steer the topic back to herself. The worst of it is that she's now pregnant with her first child, so now we all have to hear about how she's invented pregnancy and motherhood. It's also clear she's completely spun out on relinquishing control while she's on maternity leave...so she's planning on "being available" to supervise us all while she's on leave. Good lord...give me a break! I'm at a loss with how to handle this anymore. If jobs were like water, I'd keep paddling.

Just hang in there, she has to leave to take care of her child once it's hatched. Be as nice as you can to everyone, this way you might get her job while she is away.

this sounds like a standard behavior, you may want to start looking for something new. mat leaves don't last forever, and it is against the law to sack someone or give away their position permanently while a person is on mat leave.

I would say "look for something else", but you will find people like her just about everywhere. The good news is that she is leaving soon and you're going to have at least a year's break.

I find it curious that the comments contain no actual advice besides "get a new job." Really people? Have we so few people skills?
Whatever you do, do not confront her. Tried that with a similar person, and once they know you're on to them, they will do everything within their power to get you fired. Best thing to do is go above their head and ensure you're noticed.

Wait for her to leave after the baby, and then have great pity for the dad, if there's one around.

I have, who are all narcissists,so i know how to drive them crazy and push their buttons: ignore them.

It'll drive her insane if you all make a pact to NEVER call her for any advice..not even once.

Hahaha, no one has ever called me a "hater" before! This makes everything better somehow. Also, sorry, not sorry. I'm definitely not the only one to feel this way; I'm simply one of the few who chooses not to gossip about it, which is why I'm posting/ranting here. I WISH I could simply find a new job, but why should I quit? I work my ass off here! I just want some recognition, which is tough to do when someone steals all the glory.

Find out where she lives, poop in a paper bag and put it on her doorstep. Then light it on fire, ring the bell and run. When she opens the door and stomps out the flames with her shoe, she will get poop on her foot!
