Nothing Average

Dating online it bothers me how many men (and probably women too) inaccurately describe their shape. Many chunky guys will describe themselves as "average", and many average guys as "athletic". No!! You are average if you have a healthy body weight but no definition, athletic if your muscles are clearly visible. Your potential date is going to figure it out if you meet, so don't start things off on a lie.

Times have changed, and many are desperate.

I would think that, if a guy can crane only his neck and look down to see his wedding tackle (low-mast setting) without a mirror, he should self-describe as "fit". If he has cut, clearly visible abs, he would be modern-day "athletic".

In 2015, there's little that's "average" about healthy body weight, for either gender, even in BC. Perhaps in Europe.

Aren't you all?

Aren't you all lying to yourself by dating online. ? Not very realistic looking for human companionship via a computer.

The same...

Goes for women describing their "curves" too. Not all of us are expecting Jabba the Hut out of the word "voluptuous".

No Surprise

The ladies do it too....
Also your best photo from 5 years ago isn't exactly representational.
I've seen people I know on those sites and the pictures are not what they look like today.

Because the whole world is shaped like Kate Moss. Enlighten me, what is average anyway?

I'm a female who's 5'8, 138 pounds and have chunky thighs and a pudgy tummy. I'd like to think I'm average.

My roomate is 5'3, 140 pounds and thinks she's average too.

This is why body shaming is getting worse these days. Get over it.

Just because a person participates in sports , doesn't not mean they have an "athletic" body.
sure a weight-lifter, sumo wrestler, Football player (excluding quarter back, and kicker) engage in these activities, BUT in NO way does their physical body scream "athletic". If you are LARGE, fat, obese, This is not average. don't sugar coat it. try selecting Large, Over-weight, Stocky, etc..
Your "weight and measurements" are a true indicator to your physical body category.
Both sexes need to be more accurate.

I think it's funny

....How many men are under the misconception that women don't give a rats tail about a mans appearance. Women (at least every single one I've ever complained about this with) are just as shallow about mens appearance as men are with ours. The only theory I have as to why they came up with this notion is because men control the media. Ever notice in porn movies how the male is always butt ugly, big gutted- hairy bastard? it's telling the average schlub he too can score a gorgeous woman.

Sorry

But women lie a lot more.
Women's definitions:
A few extra pounds or "big boned"=20-30 pounds overweight
Curvy=30-50 pounds overweight
BBW= 50 pounds + overweight

@aren't you all - you do see the irony in posting your criticism on an open forum re: human interaction, right?

Anyway, online dating is an extensive of any real 'dating'. You don't think people dress in a certain way, act in a certain way to 'score'? If you don't think so, then you're completely blind (or dumb).

Personally, I've met some really great people in online dating. Some not so great. But that's pretty much on par w/ dating overall.

But both sexes DO lie. I've had men clearly hide their girth in their pictures and then when I met them and they're CLEARLY bigger than say or indicated. Or, they're a LOT shorter than what they put down (not that I really care about height -- I think it's a stupid thing that people NEED to have). And I've been on dates where men tell me that they're surprised that I look pretty much the same as in my pics (though, they've told me the whole 'upper' shot thing).

All in all, people lie. It's not exclusive w/ online dating. Though, it's even dumber to do it online and then ask the girl/boy on a date...geesh.
