paralyzing catholic guilt

I get in such a panic when i see a nice lady making eyes at me. they could be looking at me and smiling and yet i get all anxious and embarrased and end up staring at my feet. this happens out and about nearly every day. its especially bad on transit cause we're all in an enclosed space.i try to smile/nod but i worry that i am misinterpreting things and dont want to offend/bother and get stuck into this wierd catholic guilt spiral. i wish women would be sometimes be more assertive to start conversations too, some of us more introverted folks need a bit of coaxing! maybe i just got a booger sticking out of nose? itd be nice to let me know

and this doesn't sound like Catholic guilt. Sounds a little bit like social anxiety disorder. My personal solution was liquid courage. Although I wouldn't recommend it because I have done some stupid things over the years it worked for me. I am more comfortable dealing with people in all sorts of public situations totally sober now.

Anxiety isn't your issue. Catholicism is.

smile back! a smile doesn't have to be complicated... they may just think you are attractive and that's it - nothing more. Don't get stressed about it :)

And just start picking your nose. Or you could close one nostril and blow really hard. I guarantee she'll stop smiling!

What is wrong with you? I took the bus today and until reading your post, forgot all about it. I can't picture even one person who was on that bus. Quit living in your head; your imagination plays much too big a role in your life.
