Stop asking

The following questions/statements get you NOTHING when checking into a hotel: Q/S: "Are there any upgrades available?" A: We don`t have a group of rooms set aside just in case someone asks this, you want an upgrade, pay for it. Q/S:"Can I have the best room available?" A: Oh, I see that you paid next to nothing through a 3rd party site and stay here once a year. Again, pay for it. Q/S: "I'm here all the time" A: Really? Do you see this effing computer in front of me? Do you know that I can actually check and see that you've been here 3 times in 2 years and that doesn't amount to shit on our bottom line. Q/S: "You really charge for parking? I don't think I should pay" A: Yes we do, this is the downtown of a major city center and there is only one city center in the world that gives free parking, Chernobyl. In fact hotels that don't charge for parking just put the room rates up. Q/S: "I know the owner." A: No you don't. If you did then he would set up your reservation. So I'm just going to pretend that I believe you and give you a crap room anyway. Q/S: "They did it for me last time." This is my most hated, who did it? What did they look like? Was last time 2 effing years ago? People drop this as some final argument, well chances are it was me who you were dealing with "last time" and I still wouldn't have done it!

parking

Charging for parking is such a nickle and dimer.

Yes! They should include it in the rates. 100 percent.
but they dont. You know why?
Profit.
Wheres the customer loyalty. Not everyone has extra $20 to throw around everywhere you go.
they would charge you tobto breather their air if they could,

Sure I kinda get your other points of guests trying to lightly play you for better value but charging for parkingiparking is the hotel playing their guests.

Having worked in a hotel corp office, I can say you need firing in the worst way. Your attitude sucks and you clearly don't give a damn about customer service. Maybe CCRA needs some new auditors? With your lousy outlook, you would fit right in.

What a great post. You obviously have a ton of experience and you've become all too familiar with people and their bullshit. My guess is, you have to deal with this on a daily basis.

Super funny post!
I hear the same thing from my guests all the time, esp # 3!
ANNNNND Let me make this clear, I do care about my guests and I'm sure you do too. Just cuz you're venting doesn't mean you should be fired.
Jeez Louise people, Lighten up!

Went to Harrison last week, asked for an upgrade at front desk (despite having booked a 3rd party site). They were friendly and actually gave us a better room at no extra cost. I am assuming you were not the person I dealt with. Good luck.

Very interesting comments everyone. To the corporate office who thinks I should be fired: You obviously haven't had any guest interactions in a long time, your time upstairs has made you forget what it's like to deal with customers on a constant basis and how difficult it can be.

To people who think I'm shitty at my job: I keep an eye on my property on Travelocity and my name comes up a lot with guests saying how helpful I am, I also get a lot of tips and thank you's, so I'm pretty sure that I know what I'm doing. Just because I vent doesn't mean I hate my job, do you all go home at the end of every day and talk about how much you love your job? Never had a day that really sucked?

To the person who defended me: Thank you, it's nice to see that others in this industry can relate, and yes I was venting, I do love my job!
