I confess...

I moved to Vancouver to be with my now husband. I left a simple, calm life, with my lovely family and friends. The hubby's family has embraced me and they are mostly wonderful people, however it's a big family there is always drama and bullsh!t. I'm trying to live a positive and happy life, but I'm tired of dealing with these people. I'm also tired of all the family/friends gatherings. Don't get me wrong- I'm all about family and friends- especially since I don't have mine around, but we are the "pleasers" and there is no way to say "No" without starting a new go-round of drama.

It really is true that you marry the whole family, not just the man, or woman.

There are ways to say no that will EVENTUALLY lead to no drama. I think the key is to be firm and just say, "That doesn't work for us," with no excuses or explanations. I'd also suggest reading Carolyn Hax's online advice column, because a lot of people are in similar situations.
I hope you find a great support system of wonderful friends who don't create drama. I know it takes time. Best of luck to you :)
I'm very glad
