Gone

I will never get back the ten years that I lived here. I put my heart and soul into every person I met. I threw parties, cooked meals, took people out to shows, helped people in debt. I was the best friend you could have. Not one birthday party, not one meal, nothing was every given back to me or even hearty thanks for my efforts. Millionaire's would haggle over 50 bucks for party rentals, women would simply disappear after a few free meals, my job was stolen more than once by my best friends. Basically the more I put into people here the worst my life was getting and each and every person I knew was self absorbed or too stupid to even realize they where shitty people. They would just smile and go "what?" Like it was my fault they decided to be losers. #Fuckvancouver

Yep, that's Vancouver now. Unearned wealth from parents and real estate windfalls has given the whole city the attitude of a trust fund kid.

I would have reciprocated. I have found the same lack of quality here. Good luck in the future. It's our loss.

Sorry to hear this.

It's a tough city with even tougher people; I have been fucked over so many times by friends I can't count. I do not socialize anymore or have any interest in doing so for fear of getting rogered. However, I will say: There are jerks everywhere. And humans are inherently bad, not good...opportunists will look for weakness and prey upon it, and this weakness is sometimes in the form of generosity and kindness. Pathetic but true. Grow an armadillo-like shell and keep trucking. Best of luck.

yup, it's the city's fault

that you chose to surround yourself with these 'friends' and pursue these 'women'.

Sorry about your shitty life experiences here and wasted efforts. I think a lot of us can relate to your post. I have basically whittled down my core group of 25-30 to now...it's just me. People (friends) seems to just chew you up and spit you out, they only call when they need something from you and although they have their smart phones fused to their left hand at all times-never seem to return your text until dayyyys later. I sometimes feel crushing loneliness, but that is a way easier feeling to deal with than the feeling of being used.

vancouver people suck...95% of them are coddled by their parents!!
Vancouverites (the snobs who inherit houses from their parents)view themselves as god-like figures

vancouverites are the most self obsessed real estate worshiping soulless people you will ever encounter,
these people got their noses so high in the clouds since the RE bubble started,
vancouverites need 2 planes when they fly....1 for their bodies and 1 for their ego

After the infamously corrupt Vancouver Stock Exchange was finally shut down about 2001, I have no doubt that a group of glossy-eyed local sociopaths met behind closed doors and planned how to tart up Vancouver and sell its soul. And they did. We let them.

and no. Everything said here is true, but there are great people in Vancouver too. You just need to be aware and recognize who they are.

I disagree with all the blame

-It has nothing to do with real estate
-It has nothing to do with trust funds
-It has nothing to do with people's parents

It's called selfishness and rudeness.

OP, you sound so generous and thoughtful; look at all your efforts for people! I agree with you; most people just lack any thoughtfulness but will GLADLY take all they can. I've experienced the same thing. The return in efforts back to me feels like 10% of what I've done for others. I totally understand you... You're not alone.

Your spirit is about sharing with others. A rare and beautiful quality. Keep that spirit for those who deserve You.
