Comforted

by watching old episodes of 21 Jump street - there is something about the old school Vancouver that I got to experience that makes me want to go back to Granville in the nineties with the arcades, the trees, benches, lights and payphones.

One of my greatest days...

... was turning 18 and finally being able to go into those arcades on Granville... when it was all grimy and edgy and just on this side of sort-of-OK... indeed, Vancouver has had two big quantum leaps of existence... 1986, before and after Expo... and late 90s, when Hong Kong blew up... the city changed drastically both times. Wonder what the third big change will be, and when...

I graduated in 1987 & the difference between then & now is astounding. I miss our small city :(

and I really miss the old video arcades (I worked in Pie In The Sky on Kingsway near Metrotown) and the days when it wasn't next to fucking impossible to find a payphone.

But console gaming has saved spending so many quarters. ;)

BTW - For any former '80s teens who enjoy reading (sci-fi), check out: 'Ready Player One'.
