You won't be sorry.

A year ago I dumped three longtime friends and life has never been better. One was quickly becoming an Ezra Levant clone and I couldn't listen to another spiel on what a fantastic person Margaret Thatcher is. One had become a new age spaz who talked about nothing but her "psychic" who basically told her whatever she wanted to hear. The third was my best friend, but he lost his joy for living when he got involved with a life-sucking moron (whom he has to employ because he's utterly useless).

I've spent the last year meeting new people and have made great connections with three or four. So yeah, I highly recommend it!

Now and again you have to do some emotional housecleaning and get rid of the people around you who only take. Keep the people who will support and encourage you around and reciprocate. Your life will only get better :)

What I've heard is when you're hanging with someone, think about how you feel before you hang out, during, and then after. Really take a look at how they make you feel. If there's anxiety, boredom, disinterest, depression, etc, then this person probably shouldn't be in your life, or you should see less of them at least.

Real Friends

...truly value you for whom you are as a person. I used to know some religious guy in high school who was one of those self serving "holier than thou" types. He always criticised and counted people's flaws and just felt he had to be right about everything. Little did the jesusfreak realize that he was NOT the center of the universe. Trying to dumb myself down in order to please him was like beating a dead horse. I ditched him a long time ago, haven't seen him since and things are better off that way. The Dalai Lama has said that when old friends drift out of your life, there's always room for new ones. Things change, shit happens, but life goes on.
