Got any change man....

Not sure who taught servers in Vancouver class but they failed on all fronts. I have not been to a single restaurant , pub, bar, snack outlet or any place that serves food in Vancouver with a server that can serve and brings back my change without asking for it. It's rude and I mean RUDE to ask a patron if they want their change back because you aren't owed anything unless you work for it. The vacant smiling and inability to be proactive and anticipate diners needs is rock bottom here but it always from some good looking person guy or girl. Women do it way more than men though so not sure why that is. Do like when homeless people beg for money,? Why do the same If you could actually serve, you would get a better tip. T.I.P.S. To Insure Proper Service. Not I brought you a plate of food you own me 30%..... Bring me my change, NOW.

Actually the "P" in TIPS stands for prompt. When the practice originated, a person used to tip beforehand. Makes sense too. Most of the time tipping occurs out of expectation, not to bribe someone into doing a good job or because we genuinely think the service was great. And I say this as a person who used to salivate over my crappy tips in the service industry.

I also hate this phrase. In the UK the change comes back automatically and you leave whatever change you want after that for a tip. It is beyond rude to ask me if I want change or not and then I have to specify an amount to bring back to me, which is just plain awkward.

It seems like a perfectly normal response. I don't know why you are making a fuss. Or just say "yes" when asked.

NO! NO! NO! TIPS is not, or at least SHOULD NOT
be an acronym for To Insure Prompt Service.

That is NOT to grammatically correct!

It would be TEPS or TO ENSURE PROMPT SERVICE!

Insure means to provide a recompense against a risk.

Ensure means to provide the means to achieve an end result.

THEY HAVE VERY DIFFERENT MEANINGS !!!

It is SO VERY STUPID of you to say TIPS means
To Insure Prompt Service.

But because most of you are FAR TOO IGNORANT
(i.e. too Stupid for the most part!) to know the
difference between Insure and Ensure, I must
spell it out here for you.

The correct acronym with the word INSURE in it
should be To Insure Against Poor Service!

And YES! I'M AN UNABASHED KNOW-IT-ALL!
Because, unlike most of you, I choose NOT
to devolve and remain ignorant!

You are a self righteous jerk. Maybe servers ask if you need change because a lot of people don't require change. When I worked as a server I would ask if people required change before looking in the bill fold because it saved time and made me more efficient. If I brought someone change (unnecessarily) that would take time away from the other tables and customers that needed my attention and service. The world doesn't revolve around you.

I hate when severs ask me if I want any change back. It's presumptuous of them.

If a server does the minimum, and generally most of them do, I tip 10%. Bringing me my food is all they do. I generally have to flag someone, anyone, to get the bill first. Generally dining out in average restaurants in Vancouver is so-so. Only in the higher end places there is any semblance of professionalism.

Who cares

Get over yourself and ask for change back when you put down your cash. Managers actually request servers to ask for change. Easy tiger

I've learn through out the years working in the service industry. A frugal person will not tip, no matter how great you provided the service. Im not talking crazy 30% tips and talking the basic 5-10% tips here.
