I can't stop crying

Thinking about that old lady in North Van who ended up in a shelter. So many of us could end up like this. So many of us are only one crisis away.

I wish everyone had more compassion for people who find themselves in troubled times. It's so easy to judge others but anyone can find themselves unemployed, homeless, suffering from mental health issues and/or addiction issues. If you don't have a support network like a family or a bank balance to provide a safety net then one crisis can have devastating consequences that are hard to get out of. We should be thankful for what we have and generous with those who have less.

How can we help

Thank you for making me aware of this situation and to *Compassion above. Well said. I am going to find out if there is a way today to help this person. I would pay for one of her nights stay at a hotel. One would hope someone using one of the many government rooms in the hotel would be decent enough to give up a room for a elderly citizen of our community who is not well.

FYI:

The senior in question was in the shelter because while she was hospitalized for a surgical procedure her landlord decided to do some work on her apartment—variously described as bed-bug extermination, cleaning, and renovations—that ended up taking a week or two longer than expected.
According to news reports, she had a "private" room at the shelter and regular visits from the health authority and will only be there until her own living space is fir for occupation once more.
Your concern is appreciated, and don't let this information stop you from making contact to help and/or express support and sympathy.
