I don't want to be your captive audience

Gotta get this off my chest... If I'm meeting you for the 1st time ever, or if I haven't seen you 3-6 months, please DO NOT shove your phone in my face to show me video or pictures of what you've done, what you find hot, or what your kids are doing in the FIRST FIVE MINUTES of our meet-up. I find this completely rude and invasive. How about a normal conversation, sharing some eye contact, feelings, greetings, first? I actually cherish the first time I'm seeing someone for the first time, or if I haven't seen someone in a long while. I enjoy someone's face, presence, emotion and voice inflection very much. Please do not kill this emotional connection by shoving your smart phone in my face right away when we meet. I absolutely hate it. I also loathe the following: new moms who bring their babies to the office on a regular basis. They come frequently, like every 3-4 weeks, and will stand in our department for a good 30-60 minutes, fishing for compliments. I'm paid at work to meet my many deadlines. The mom and baby standing there for 30-60 minutes is intrusive to everyone who is working. Why don't you come at lunch when we're on a break? Or do you want me to do unpaid overtime to make up for the time I lost listening to you talk about your baby? I have a kid so I know how cool having kids are. I never paraded my kid around though, and definitely did not return to my office during my maternity leave to show off every month seeking validation and attention. I arranged visits with interested friends privately. OK.... glad I got that out. I feel better already.

Yes yes yes! Whenever someone approaches with their phone claiming 'you gotta see this' I always get the 'ah f***' feeling and act like I'm curious anyway. Most always it's something uninteresting and makes no impression on me whatsoever...I'm getting damn good at the fake laughter though!
