Vancouver Complainers

I'm sick and tired of hearing people say "I want to move away from Vancouver, I hate it here, the people suck, it's too expensive, it's too cold and rainy" I was born and raised in LA and decided 6 years ago that I wanted to move away from there and I DID it. I live in Vancouver, and I find it to be one of the most beautiful, most clean and natural places I've ever been. I've been living here 5 years and have to say that the people are among the most polite people I have ever encountered, the water is as clean as you can possibly get and I'm in awe that you can drink out the tap. The government actually gives a shit about their people here. Healthcare is amazing. Sure there are some downfalls, but you'll never have to worry about not being able to afford to have a baby or if you have an accident. Vancouver is one of the safest cities in the world...I won't have to worry about my kid getting shot up in elementary school or anywhere else. I feel safe walking home at night, and I know that if I were in trouble the people around me would help. I'm sorry but I don't know why people complain so much...either take action or STFU because this is one hell of an amazing city. It's a good thing you weren't born in south central LA. Get outside, take a walk, take a ME day, breathe in the clean, crisp air, and quit complaining. there's no place like it.

Ottawa and in 1997, I remember I slipped on a patch of ice at a crosswalk (at a major downtown intersection) and no one, I repeat NO ONE helped me up.I had to lift myself up. When I had an accident on my bike in 2013, two people came to ask if I was alright. There is a difference here!

I feel like there's a huge difference when it comes to LA and Vancouver so I can see how you may like it here.
Now i don't want to seem like a complainer and don't you worry I have plans of moving out of vancouver but after living in different provinces, Vancouver can be hard to live in. I understand people's cries about cheaper living, better wages and friendlier people because across Canada it exists. Yes those complainers should change their situation but it's not always easy. Glad you love it but from a very Canadian perspective -- Vancouver, meh. Smell yah later.

I am in a similar boat...raised in LA (not born there though), learned of Vancouvers existence 8 years ago and wanted to move here, finally did in 2014, and have not wanted to go back ever since I got here. I dig the rain and cold and almost everything else (except the fairly lame business hours) but really its an absolute paradise here.

As for the moron who decided to ask if you ever tried to buy a house here, as though that legitimizes the whining, I just want to say....rent. If you cant afford a house, just rent a place. You don't need a house, a house does not make your life complete, you are not missing out on life if you are not in possession of a house. Guess what? The myth of Vancouver being an unaffordable city goes away if you are not busy trying to live a lifestyle you can not afford in the first place.

I do miss good mexican food though....goddamn I would kill for a Vallarta market up here or a Tacos Mexico or something. You gotta admit, the "mexican" food here is actually something worth complaining about....

Vancouver born and raised..

And moving soon to the west coast of Florida.
Nice 9 year old 3b , 2.5 bath house on an ocean access canal, swimming pool, hot tub, palm trees mangos and avocados etc growing in the back yard, great neighbourhood, that I paid $340k for. % minute walk to awesome beaches, and very low crime rate. Nearby nice condos a couple minute walk from the ocean are $150k.
Very very friendly people.
Drive easy 3.5 hours-Miami/Ft Lauderdale,South Beach etc etc,4 hours go reef diving on the Keys, nearby is Tampa,Sarasota,Naples.

Problem with Vancouver is....you are stuck here.
North: Whistler, unless you ski/bike and like to pay huge- if you've been once that's enough.
West: stuck in the ferries for hours then go to...small towns with little to do. Too cold to swim.
East: Abbotsford/Surrey/Chilliwack not renowned as a tourist destination nor is Hope, hiking a bit, then comes Kelowna after 4 hours, where you can do some skiing and tour some wineries.
South: wait at the border for how long? (maybe not so much nowadays) and then drive to a casino, outlet mall, and after 3-5 hours see Seattle which is similar to Vancouver. Then drive and fight the border for another 3-5 hours for an exhausting day.

Just go look on Zillow and see for yourself,
