birthday blues

There are 10 years between my husband and I. When he and his/our group of friends turned 40- we made a big deal about it. This year they all turn 50 and we're having parties galore but I just turned 40...crickets. I can't believe I'm so hurt by their lack of effort and in some cases lack of acknowledgement. I knew it would probably happen since I'm the social coordinator. The hubby made it very special for me, I just wish the friends were as awesome to me as I am to them. I often have to remind myself of this quote, which I think can be negative, but it really does help get me through "You'll end up really disappointed if you think people will do for you as you do for them. Not everyone has the same heart as you."

My 40th went by without any friends even offering to hang out. Hoping 50th will be more memorable since I am already looking for new friends.

Birthdays are aggravating

This is my experience:
- people who I never hear from throughout the year suddenly arrange a birthday dinner to celebrate themselves. I don't go because they obviously just want attention.
- people will remind me 3-5x that they're birthday is coming up, which I find tacky. Why not just ask me what I'm buying you/where I'm taking you on your birthday?
- people choose the restaurants that have $50 mains, so I'm supposed to chip in for their drinks, appies, main, dessert and post-drinks
- I get a lame "HB" on Facebook.

Basically, birthdays seem like everyone is DYING to get spoiled. Sorry your husbands friends didn't spoil you. Don't bother investing so much of your generous energy since it's not returned on your milestone 40th. If you're as giving as you sound, you deserve a memorable birthday.

Just tell your husband to plan you something! Even if it's silly and things don't come together perfectly it will be fine. It's the effort that counts, right? Happy 40th!!!!!!!!!!!

Hahahahahahahaha

This is all someone has to worry about? That because they act as "social coordinator" for a vast circle of friends, that somehow these people are supposed to intuitively change their lifestyles, in case the coordinator frets over something ridiculous?

Spent my 40 sitting on a rock by science world getting drunk.

Gave up on those friend things you speak of years ago.

People here really do steal all the suck and leave no change.
