Duty

It seems it should be the Duty of the Older (Elder) generation to LISTEN to the younger generations, however, it seems that the older - I won't say Elder - generation does not want to Listen only wants to Talk and even worse, seems to Refuse to Listen to the younger generation by virtue of being older. A true Elder I would think WOULD listen to the younger generation. It doesn't seem like there are Elders among the hippies.

Confessions desperately needs to deploy those Captcha dialog boxes, if only for cases like this. And I mean like a dozen of them.
Posting under the influence gives sad and incoherent results much too often.
To think that anyone, anywhere (but especially in Van, where one has to run really fast just to stay where one is), has a Duty (capitalized, yet!) to listen to you ramble... Did you suffer a fall and sustain a head injury?
And if someone can get a dozen Captcha right despite their altered state, well, I'd respect that. Be damned curious to hear what they have to say, actually.

I was 12 in 1967 and saw hippies in Vancouver.

Most seemed like young adults who were dressing up and having a laugh - probably helped some by being able to rent 6 bedroom houses for 100 a month.

But yeah. It got old fast for them.

The art of "listening" is not, and should not be a "duty."

It's a benefit.

It's something that cannot truly be defined as an exclusive purpose by age, gender, social status, etc, etc.

Listen openly to the people around you, whether they are human, canine, feline, avian, or whatever. Listen to your environment, wind, water, traffic, distant voices.....more etc etc.

I'm not trying to be flaky here. It's all information and it's generally advertisement free. It tells what's working, and what's not, and how, and why, and to whom.....

When I see folks (most ages) walking around with their ears plugged in, or thoroughly engrossed in the workings of their cel phones....I shake my head.

They're missing so much and creating an insulation that excludes the real environment around them. The insecurity of disinterest.

Life has a sound, a music, the noise of which carries vast amounts of information. It's an ongoing dialogue that can help anybody navigate with such grace and purpose that it's staggering. And yet, I know of almost nobody who keeps their ears (and eyes!!) open. People wrap themselves up in mirrors that mask the senses and becoming insecure when anything interrupts the reflection.

The willingness to listen to the world surrounding allows the individual the opportunity to understand.

Understanding creates an internal strength, which in turn, builds a character more secure within itself.

Listening takes courage, and a willingness to be adaptive. But these are muscles that can be strengthened with the exercise of use. It's amazing how hard it is at first, and how easy it becomes with practice.

Yeah....no matter what age you exist within.

Their duty is to maintain the customs passed down to them by their ancestors---last century more than any previous, we had a breach in that duty, and the ancient customs were abandoned. And it's children who are best in contact with their genomes, also better nourished due to it being easier to get sufficient nutrition when you're eating and growing, rather than stagnating and declining. So it's an ancient problem, tho far more pertinent lately, Uranus, Cronus, Zeus tell it in the Greek vein.

The hippies, thanks to the drugs they were able to get, if they took enough of them, were able to reactive enough of their nervous systems to come into touch with the ancient, cosmic law. But then they mostly got pregnant and found they needed to fill in tax returns to support their kids.

Hmmm, I still haven't met a millennial that can communicate properly with their device or in real life.

You need to earn the right to my ears. Based on this little confession, you have a long way to go in that.

And by no means, no matter how hard I try, I can't for the life of me understand how OP's confession could ever make any sence. Unless of course it's trolling

way back in 1966 when I was 19 years old I travelled to Minnesota, USA to volunteer for the Viet Nam war.On my way there I began dropping large amounts of acid and forgot about the army-instead I hitchhiked and rode freight trains around the country.I did this for about 3-4 years thieving and fornicating and occasionally working..Then I quit that stuff and got married, had kids and got old..I had long hair then, still have long hair but everything else has changed..I don't think I'm any wiser after all that except for the timeless cosmic moments.....
