Heavy handed

Is it me or are the actions by Vancouver Police Department slowly getting a little heavy handed? I understand that you deserve to be tasered if you don't respond to simple commands, or present a threat to law enforcement, but getting kicked by several police officers after being shot seems a little excessive. Then the departments PR department shrugs it off as if it is acceptable. Was this person mentally challenged, or did he have a hearing problem? I know mainstream media can be a little one sided, but seeing police officers kick another person is complete bullshit, and I'm sure they were not trained in academy to use it. This was pride and ego rising to the surface, and just a little 'fuck you' from the guilty officers to try and teach a lesson. Maybe VPD should introduce chest mounted cameras with audio like other jurisdictions, because the excuse always seems to be "the actions that instigated the officers response were not captured on camera". Don't get me started on the officer who sucker punched the cyclist in recent times either.

Today's cops are embarrassing cowards! Abusing citizens when there are half-a-dozen other cowardly cops with them. These are the guys and gals who didn't get the attention and respect they thought they deserved during adolescence. Watch these same guys crumble in any real emergency when they have no back-up...

Let's look at what motivates a person to choose 'cop' as a career.

Control issues, much?

Fuck. I would so never date a cop.

...want to see more "noble" cops then please sign up. As is, there're still humans with fight or flight instincts. They still get adrenaline surges and act on impulse just like the rest of us. Sure, maybe, body cams. Sure, maybe, better training. But it's easy to criticize from the comfort of your living room.

I don't know if the police are becoming any more violent. I grew up in the sixties....I think they were a lot worse then. Especially in the 'States.
Perhaps the difference now is that every cel phone is a camera....a video camera. Every phone owner becomes an "on the spot photo-journalist."
Look at the massive effect just that is having on our societies all around the world. A lot of accountability is suddenly being served up.
...Also....don't forget that that basic premise of civil policing is to enforce with the implication of violence, at least somewhere down the road there could be an escallation to violence, perhaps even to deadly effect. To equip police officers with heavy duty GoPros isn't so costly, but would greatly hamper the "implication" of enforcement. Officers would have to carefully consider the use or threat of violence as an easy solution.....and that becomes complex for their handlers....I mean...administrators....

@Totally agree. Hyperbole much? There are tens of thousands of officer/citizen contacts of every kind, every day of the week, and a minute percentage conclude with any kind of force being used. Of those where force IS used only a minute percentage involve allegations of excessive force or other impropriety.
But hey- you keep up with your ranting and raving about things you clearly know nothing factual about, but nonetheless express very strong opinions on.

This is great stuff -

... "there're (sic) still humans with fight or flight instincts....
... "They still get adrenaline surges and act on impulse just like the rest of us.

Jesus! Are you serious OP? So how well do you think those excuses would go down in court for criminals who commit violence, or sexual crimes!?

"So sorry judge, it was just instinctual to punch that guys teeth in, you know, fight or flight and all that!"

"Oh come on judge, yes i raped that young woman, but look at the dress she was wearing! It was an adrenaline surge, i was acting on impulse. Surely that counts for something"

Idiot
