oh Vancouver

I've lived in this city for 10 years and it still doesn't feel like home. I have good friends here and a job I love (self-employed) but it just feels off for some reason. I think growing up in a small town ruined me for city life. I am so used to having a hiking trail all to myself or a huge backyard. Or living on a sparsely populated mountainside. I miss that so much. and reasonable cost of living would be nice while I'm at it. My confession is I want to leave but fear starting over from scratch, both with business and friends. I've been trying to make a plan and save but saving is really tough in this city!

Yes but everything you say points to you wanting to move out of the city. If you want to move out of the city, that's a great thing. Cities are okay and everything, but if you don't want to live in one there's no reason to.

You should move, and be happy. You have done a ten year stretch, ffs.

Try a smaller city

Like Victoria or Kamloops or Edmonton

Lower cost of living and friendlier people.

More and more young people are finding life in Vancouver hopeless. The cost of living and the difficulty of making friends and finding lasting love are often given as the causes But, believe it or not, there is life outside Vancouver, and many brave folk are finding that out, making new lives for themselves in places as diverse as Chetwyndand Nelson, Chilliwack and Smithers, Kamloops and Nanaimo. You will find opportunities and friends. Check out your options!

Port Moody is perfect for you! And it's close enough to the city if you drive :)

Or Squamish

Lots of people who work in the city call Squamish home. As long as you are able to telecommute if there's an accident on the highway, it's a great alternative!
