Unemployed in Vancouver

Wow. People say that the job market is great in this city. Not. The only jobs that are available are retail, restaurant or construction. I have been applying and nothing. I went to WorkBC funded by Christy Clark and her party.. That was a mistake. they said that I can take a course (that I had to pay) to be a dishwasher. When did you have to take a course on how to wash dishes. I was a dishwasher 30 years ago. What happened to common sense? I heard that BCIT is offering a course on how to cut grass lawns. Wow! VCC is offering a program on volunteer management. What happened to on the job training and common sense?

clearly your experience applies to the general populace - if there is a problem in the city, and like all large conurbation we have our share, its nimbyism and a reluctance to accept personal responsibility

Those classes are probably aimed at new immigrants. It's a cash grab from people who think there's value and something to be learned by taking a class in dishwashing.

"On the job training"??

Get with it—most companies do not do "on the job training" anymore. They expect you to hit the ground running, and if you don't, they can find someone who will. You will not find hardly any companies that will train you for weeks and months; that costs too much time & money.

It's Funny.

It's funny when older people finally realize what it is like right now, as it shows how far removed they are from reality. At the bottom, you cannot hit the ground running. You're usually stuck there, if you do not have the resources to move up.
