A hair thing

In my 20's, my (Asian) mother shamed me for wanting to grow my hair long, saying that it made me look unkempt or depressing. I knew in my heart that long hair is sensual and attractive, but I couldn't communicate that without her shaming me for being superficial. I think it's part of her larger campaign to make me a spinster. So I was forced to keep my hair in a cute but asexual bob. I had to move out in order to grow my hair long. Nowadays men do double takes in ways they've never done before. And yet I still ask myself if they turned their heads because they think there's something wrong with my hair.

Men do double takes for the opposite reason - because your long hair is sensual and lovely! When in doubt, keep telling yourself this. Hope you get over any residual shame your prudish mom made you feel. Let it flow!

Some moms feel competitive with their daughters. And some moms feel that they need to make their daughters more humble. Whatever the case with your mom, breaking free of her words would make your life a lot happier. Live your life the way you want to. It's part of growing up and putting your feet on the ground. No resentment or shame. Just live life.

Grow it long!

I only wish I had thick, lustrous hair like that of an Asian beauty like yourself. My hair is whispy and brittle and doesn't grow passed my shoulder blades at best and it gets all frizzy at the ends. Keep it up!

They are looking because you are beautiful and great. This idea that some religions/cultures have that a woman is only pure if she looks like a man has to go. There is nothing wrong with a beautiful woman. Go and make all women proud - become something you've always dreamed about. Help animals, help the environment, help people - and look great doing it. You have a great legacy to leave - this is your moment!!
