Is it just me?

I've worked my ass off on an education and I'm almost 30. Vancouver is killing me though. I have nothing to show for it and this city is cutthroat. It's hopeless. No jobs. No affordability. No careers. Just already well-off people resorting. I just don't understand why nobody in power has done anything at all to help Vancouverites? I'm starting to like Trump as much as I fear him. At least he'll break the system and bring everyone down to the status quo.

This topic is getting almost as annoying as the housing market. I am only 10 years older than you, no post-secondary education, I've been able to pull myself out of major debt because of cost of living ( How you ask? By living frugally!). I have an average salary job and I just bought my first place in Coquitlam for under 400,000k by using an RRSP I started contributing to at your age, for a down payment. Oh and I am a single Dad, so only one income. I work in Tech, the majority of the employees are your age and they're making more money than I do.

So what's the problem? From what I see they have no work ethic and they don't save any money, they party + they go out every night, they live in over priced condos DT because it's cooler than the burbs.

The debt piles up fast. It's all about life choices. I've been in the job search market and there are a ton of positions available, they don't make a hundred grand a year but they'll pay the bills with a bit left over.

This won't apply to everyone but in my experience it describes the majority of the 20-30 kids around me.

It's time for everyone under 50 to wake up. Pension jobs are rare! CPP is not going to be covering your ass when you retire at '60'.

Work hard now, have fun later...not the other way around.

Trump does not care about poor people

Trump is not going to help people like yourself who are struggling. Trump is isolationist & protectionist & will probably harm our trade negotiations. Trump does not care about the greater good.

You can raise yourself up and get a real job or hang with bottom feeders... like yanks.

Vancouver has a shortage of qualified workers not a shortage of jobs....

Change and status quo are contradictory. I am not sure if you are suggesting that he is looking to create a greater equality among people but I do not believe that is his platform.

Regardless of Trumps politics this city does suck and it has something to do with our citizenship as humans. We have forgotten that democracy requires that we play a part and many politicians bank on our disinterest. There is an election coming up May 9, 2017, and maybe you could become an active participant in ensure people are being elected that can play a positive role in making vancouver great again. Sorry I couldn't help it, but in all seriousness change won't happen unless we make it happen.

uuhhhh....

...Trump is one of those 'already well-off people resorting' whom you are referring to...except he wants to do it in the White House. The 'system' or political economy you think he will 'break down' is Capitalism 'run-amuck' which has caused the present conditions you are concerned about and which Trump and the RNC would do anything to protect.. I know you are are discouraged and rightly so but do not let this resentment cause you to see something promising in someone who is clearly unfit to be in a position of power.

At almost 30, it's about time for you to be a little less naïve about politicians. As a rule of thumb, they're all liars and cheats out for their own best interests - not yours.

Sorry, but that's just how things are.

In the end it's between those who have the most to lose(yuppies) and the disenfranchised 99%.

Almost 30? You have so much more to learn. Be proactive and make your own career.

Like the Trump comment.

Uh?

You do know that Trump calls everyone a "loser". He is no friend of yours.

I feel your pain. It's not fair, the way things are. That said, come on. Trump not only has zero interest or capacity in helping the poor (you know he ridiculed coal miners as losers in a pervious interview right? he only likes "great men" and self-starters like himself), but by dint of his own racism and insane personality is not someone who can help you, or anyone else. Plus if you 're in Vancouver he can't do F-all to help you anyways. Never mind help. There are lots of menial job openings in East Van. From tiny things, big things grow.
