Stupid Liquor Laws

I go to a lot of comedy events and I'm worried that my favorite venues will be closed down because of Vancouver's liquor laws. My favorite venues are usually small artsy spaces that sell alcohol because the shows themselves can't cover the rent. I'm always worried that these venues which have incredibly amazing shows are going to be forced to close by people on a warpath against fun.

Anti-Smoking

These type of campaigns paved the way for this - first cigarettes were banned by so called 'well meaning' laws and now this could herald the ban of more social venues. The eighties and nineties in my memory were a fun filled smoke wine times to socialize in. I miss them and hope that this is not the case.

Not sure I understand you're concern. They're operating illegally and you're worried someone will enforce the law? You're concerned that the law is going to change?

I understand small venues wanting to have liquor income, but needed booze to have fun is pretty lame. And to the commenter above, the anti-smoking laws were the best thing to ever happen to nightlife.

When you go to European cities it's incredible how many cool little bars there are and the jovial friendly atmosphere...all our Govt does is make it hard to open a bar of any kind....no Funcouver.

Whatever happened to Comedy Courage? I hear they're no longer at Lafflines. Boy did that fade into oblivion pretty fast.
