Sidewalk Etiquette

Why am I always moving over for everyone on the sidewalk? I feel like I am being overly polite and being pushed onto the grass or street. Are you people so oblivious to your surroundings? MOVE OVER!!

Just build some GWAR-inspired shoulder pads.

If you move out of everyone's way they will let you

If you say excuse me I need to get past you people will realize they are standing tin a weird way taking up space( they do need to know though)

If someone is clearly not giving you space and walking in a huge ass squad put out a couple elbows.

Total Agreement

between people's kids, their phones and their dates, there is no courtesy anymore. i am not adverse to shoulder checking a zombie every once in a while. crosswalks are especially bad, they come at you like a football team and try and force you onto the road.

Same-experience

Iknowrite?

Seriously, WTF is wrong with this large minority of idiots? Oh, wait...

Also, it's called a sideWALK, and the word "walk" is a clue. If you're standing, do so off to the side. If you're strolling, make way for people with urgent priorities. And IF YOU'RE RIDING ANYTHING, GTFO, unless you're movement-impaired and therefore in a stroller, wheelchair or something else operated AT WALKING SPEED. Those zippy, four-wheeled electric mobility go-carts are a hazard to pedestrians, not least because the people using them are obviously unqualified to drive cars (hint, hint, chauffeur, adult supervision, etc.).

And don't get me started on my experience as a dog owner. I cross the street for other dogs (away, obviously) whenever possible. I keep my dogs close and place myself between them and others on the sidewalk as much as I can. I pay attention, like not to my mobile device but to the surroundings. I carry bags, and even spares, and always clean up any number-two-type incidents.

My behavior is unfortunately NOT the norm. This is not the wild,a dog park or a petting zoo, people. Keep your dogs close and make it not awful for others.

...but hey, idiots, like I said.

Well..

If you really want to horrify yourself, start observing the facial features of the people who don't get out of your way.

Drive on the right, walk on the right.

I figure you're already doing this, so:

Walk with conviction (this is key).
Prep your shoulder/elbow/bag for those last-second collisions.
Have a few retorts ready. Many of these morons are self-righteous and will assume you're in the wrong, because of their insane troll logic and/or incredible self-absorption.

same with people on bikes

everybody should have a bell on their bikes. Ding it to let others know you are coming up behind them, please. Pedestrians and other riders are so appreciative of this teeny tiny, yet potentially life-saving courtesy.

its not u its vanc.

vancouverites are very pushy self-absorbed people.
the way they drive is the way they walk too..
